Man too has made an imprint on the beauty of the landscape of the region, from the quilt-like patterns of plowed fields to the layout of the village streets to the structures they have built. Barns, farmsteads, simple village homes, elaborate country estates, churches, factories, theaters, and old fashioned downtowns are all integral parts of the landscape that make up the Finger Lakes Region. Finger Lakes Scenic Railroad
Website: http://www.fingerlakesscenicrailway.com/events.html
Finger Lakes Railway Corporation began operation on July 23, 1995. The investors purchased 118 miles of trackage previously known as the Geneva Cluster from the well-know train company, Conrail. The main track from Syracuse to Canandaigua was the New York Central / Auburn Rail Road and dates back to 1835. Other portions of the Finger Lakes Railway were once the Lehigh Valley ( Geneva to Kendaia) and the Pennsylvania Railroad (Penn Yan to Watkins Glen). Since 1995 Finger Lakes Railway has grown rapidly from 6 to 30 employees; from 3 to 10 locomotives; and from an initial car movement of 5,600 to over 16,000 car loads per year. The freight lines serve a diverse customer base handling a wide range of commodities including plastics, canned foods, grain, lumber, paper products, scrap and finished steel, and minerals such as salt, sand, soda ash and fertilizer. Customized service has allowed for new companies to locate on the line while giving existing customers a way to increase their business. With the breakup of Conrail, Finger Lakes Railway now has connections with three Class I Railroads: CSX, Norfolk Southern and CP Rail, a benefit to all of our customers. The nostalgic experience of rail travel has spurred the latest resurrection, since 2000, of passenger excursion service throughout Central New York State. This new service is expected to stimulate tourism in the Finger Lakes region and throughout New York State.

Chimney Bluffs - Sodus Bay
Website: http://www.inforochester.com/chimney.htm
20 minutes away - Chimney Bluffs is on the east side of Sodus Bay. This is not a waterfall, but it is a natural wonder! It is a glacial moraine which has been eroded into a series of knife-edge fingers. A well developed state park with 4 miles of hiking trails and many spectacular views of the jagged cliffs with Lake Ontario as a backdrop, it has become a popular summer destination. The Bluff Trail offers visitors a hike along the edge of the clay cliffs, giving a exhilarating and somewhat dangerous experience. The bluffs were formed by a glacial Drumlin, which has been eroded away by wind, lake waters, rain and ice, forming razor-like edges. This is not rock, but a clay-like dirt, making these cliffs very unstable. The formations will change drastically from year to year.
