The Story of the Harvard Glass Flowers
Objects

How the Flowers Were Made
Accompanying Publications

Scientific marvels; drop-dead beautiful works of art; a genus onto themselves: these are just a few of the explanations given to describe the allure of a legendary, century-old bevy of exquisite glass blossoms and fruits.

In “Botanical Wonders: The Story of the Harvard Glass Flowers,” The Corning Museum of Glass brings to bear its unique curatorial, conservation, and glassmaking capabilities to illuminate more fully than ever before the story of the crystalline botanical specimens known as the Glass Flowers of Harvard.

The exhibition celebrates the singular triumph of glassmakers Leopold Blaschka (1822-1895) and his son Rudolf (1857-1939); provides insight into the intellectual appetite of the late Victorians, through the lens of botany as an academic discipline and craze; and offers close-ups of the people and the craft process behind the Glass Flowers.

A Golden Nose Award: A Wine Judging Weekend
Website: http://senecalakewine.com/jc/content/view/121/149/
4TH Annual ~ The Golden Nose Award: A Finger Lakes Wine Experience
What is the Golden Nose Award? The Finger Lakes Region has long been a producer of award-winning wines. Both domestically and overseas, dozens of wineries win prestigious awards every single year. However it has been over twenty years since a competition has been held specifically between Finger Lakes wineries only. But rather than bringing in a batch of professional tasters to adjudicate which wines are best, we are opting to invite you, the consumers, to judge. After all, what percentage of bottles of wine are sold to wine professionals? Very few. At the end of the day, it is your senses, your palates, and your noses that our wine must please. Thus the Golden Nose Award has been created.

This event is scheduled to take place May 30, 2009 and additional details on the 4th Annual Golden Nose Award: A Finger Lakes Wine Experience will be posted here. Aside from the unique experiences described below, judges will also receive a premium commemorative wine glass emblazoned with our bold event logo to help commemorate this unique event.
